School pupils raise awareness of road safety

Date: 9/6/2010

Pupils and teachers at Chard School are raising road safety awareness by attempting a world record.

Kids will take part in a giant walking bus project and they will join other education establishments across the UK in an attempt to get 119,697 youngsters to carry out the Guinness-verified activity, This is the West Country reports.

Headteacher John Stotesbury told the news provider that he has been campaigning for a 20mph limit on roads around the school for the last four years.

"I've been writing to all and sundry about reducing the speed limit, but nothing has been done about it," he remarked.

He added that he has been told by officials that it is not practical to reduce the limit as the academic facility is on the A30.

Schoolchildren from St John's Church of England Primary School in Yorkshire recently joined forces with local police to try and deter motorists from speeding.

Pupils at the education facility used a speed indication device to monitor how fast drivers travelled when using roads in the area.
