Scilly Isles council creates new transport forum

Date: 17/4/2013
The Scilly Isles Council has established a new transport forum to address travel challenges facing the islands. As Scilly Today reports, the aim is to bring together representatives from a number of sectors in a bid to improve transport infrastructure and ensure the needs of various groups are met.
The initiative will see figures from the Duchy, FRIST, transport services, local businesses, wildlife and environmental agencies in the Isles meet on a regular basis to discuss policies and plans.
It is expected that the forum will be split into three subgroups - one which represents travel to the mainland, a second that deals with inter-island journeys and a third focused specifically on St Mary's.
Initial proposals were for the body to meet once a year, but Councillor Marian Bennett has pushed for quarterly gatherings to maintain close monitoring of passenger data.
Indeed, Councillor Robert Dorrien Smith further emphasised the importance of such information by explaining that it should be available on a daily or weekly basis.
