Scottish Transport Minister to visit Netherlands regarding cycling initiatives

Transport Minister Keith Brown is set to visit the Netherlands as part of attempts to devise a suitable cycling strategy for Scotland.With the Scottish Government aiming for ten per cent of all journeys in the country to be made by bike come 2020, Mr Brown said that working with officials in the Netherlands will complement efforts to achieve the target.
"I am delighted to be visiting the Netherlands to see for myself how they differ in terms of infrastructure, education and attitudes on cycling[comma]" he said.
"I am hoping to bring back many of the lessons learned from this visit and discuss these further with the cycling community and local authorities back home."
Cycling Scotland Chief Executive Ian Aitken added that taking tips from the Netherlands will have a beneficial impact in Scotland as the Government attempts to encourage more people to cycle.
He also highlighted the environmental, health and wellbeing benefits that could result if an increasing number of Scots get involved with cycling on the nation's roads.
