Scottish seatbelt campaign welcomed

Date: 19/4/2010
The new Have You Clicked? campaign, launched by the Scottish Government, Road Safety Scotland and the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland, has been welcomed by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA)The new campaign aims to encourage those who drive for business to buckle up. According to RoSPA, those who drive for work are less likely to belt up than those who drive in cars in their own time.
"This new campaign presents a fantastic opportunity to focus on an issue that has the potential to save lives and reduce the number and severity of injuries on Scotland's roads," said Kathleen Braidwood, road safety officer for RoSPA Scotland.
She added that there is still much work to do to encourage at-work drivers to take in messages about belting in.
Ms Braidwood noted that close to a third of those killed in cars are not wearing seatbelts, but half of those could have survived if they had made the choice to belt in.
Earlier this month, RoadSafe used the Commercial Vehicle Operator Show to highlight the importance of road safety, and its link with risk management, cost control and carbon reduction.
