Seatbelt message supported at Edinburgh Festival

Seatbelt message supported at Edinburgh Festival

Date: 17/8/2010

Performers at the Edinburgh Festival have marked the launch of a new seatbelt campaign.

The entertainers held up boards with the title of the project, Have You Clicked?, to help encourage Scots to wear a seatbelt on every road journey, reported the BBC.

Supported by the Scottish government and the Road Safety Council, the campaign will involve broadcasting TV, radio and cinema adverts across Scotland from August 30th.

Michael McDonnell, director of Road Safety Scotland, said police are still catching thousands of people a year in vehicles without using seatbelts.

"The new campaign is aimed at encouraging drivers and passengers to think of putting on a seatbelt as something they do, almost without thinking about it, every single time," he added.

Last month, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents advised motorcyclists in Scotland to take care when riding during the summer months.

Reducing the number of motorcyclists involved in accidents is a priority, said the organisation's Road Safety Officer for Scotland Kathleen Braidwood.
