Date: 16/6/2011
Security is consistently improving among vehicle manufacturers working across a wide range of motors.Such is the opinion of Mike Briggs, Vehicle Security Manager at Thatcham, who said safety standards "continue to impress".
He made his comments following the 2011 British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards, held yesterday (June 15th 2011) at the Thatcham Research Centre.
Mr Briggs added that the general public could draw "great confidence" from the fact that manufacturers are making a "tremendous contribution" towards tackling crime in this area.
Meanwhile, Paul Everitt, Chief Executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, claimed: "The sustained reduction in the number of vehicle thefts demonstrates the progress that has been made and today's awards reflect the high priority security continues to have for all vehicle manufacturers."
And James Dalton, Assistant Director of Property, Liability and Motor at the Association of British Insurers, pointed out that the cover sector will continue to reward owners of cars with improved security - such as immobilisers - by offering them premium discounts.
Audi's A1 came first in the city car category on the night, while the Citroen C5 Exclusive picked up the prize for family car.
Volkswagen was named the best overall vehicle manufacturer, with the firm's Insurance Ratings and Vehicle Security Manager Franco Iannotta saying the automaker was "delighted".
