See Inside Manufacturing scheme set to continue in 2012

Date: 23/2/2012
Business Secretary Vince Cable has announced the See Inside Manufacturing scheme will continue into 2012.Supported by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the initiative was launched last year and encouraged automotive companies to welcome young people and employment advisors into their enterprise to show what a career in the industry would be like.
It seems as though the pilot was a success, as research conducted by Semta found half of those who attended an event and were of school age stated they would think about employment opportunities within the sector.
SMMT Chief Executive Paul Everitt said the UK is home to "productive manufacturing facilities and exciting technological innovations."
"From design to production, the automotive sector presents a fantastic range of career opportunities for young people at all levels," he added.
The project kicked of in October last year and initially 100 different events were held up and down the country to promote the idea.
