Sherwood MP wins Community Campaigner Award

Date: 16/1/2012

A member of parliament has been commended for his efforts to improve road safety on the A614.

Sherwood MP Mark Spencer has been given Brake's Community Campaigner Award after supporting calls for improvements on the route.

It has experienced many serious accidents and after taking his cause to Westminster, he has successfully brought about change.

New signage has been introduced, while the speed limit has been reduced to 50mph between Ollerton roundabout and Leapool roundabout.

Mr Spencer said: "The challenge now is to ensure the enforcement of the speed limit and I have spoken with local police about ensuring this."

He is also calling for further improvements and wants to tackle more junctions on the stretch of highway.

Earlier this month, the MP for Sheffield Heeley Meg Munn received Brake and Direct Line's Road Safety Parliamentarian of the Month Award for her campaign to introduce regular driver eye tests.
