Simple checks 'can reduce risks of breakdowns'

Date: 27/10/2010
Making simple checks to their vehicles could reduce the risk of motorists experiencing breakdowns in the impending cold weather, it has been claimed.Roadside help provider Mondial Assistance stated conducting minimal, but regular, tests can prevent car issues as the winter approaches.
Lee Taylor, Automotive Director at the company, said: "We urge motorists to set aside some time to carry out a series of simple checks."
Although some tests may seem obvious, a surprising number of drivers forget to carry them out after summer, he continued.
Mr Taylor advised people to check their tyres on a regular basis, as well as keep their lights clean and make sure they are in a good working order.
Additionally, taking a mobile phone charger, de-icer and a shovel in case of snow can help prevent car catastrophes in the cold weather.
Motorists in Warrington were recently invited to a car clinic offering free advice on how to prepare their vehicle for the winter, with road safety experts giving suggestions on how to perform straightforward checks.
