Singaporeans' satisfaction with public transport falls, says survey

Date: 12/3/2013
Singaporeans' overall satisfaction with the city-state's public transport network dropped from 90.3 per cent to 88.8 per cent between 2011 and 2012, Channel News Asia has reported. The latest Public Transport Customer Satisfaction Survey - conducted in October last year - found that satisfaction levels in regards to bus and rail reliability declined, with Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew explaining to Parliament that overcrowding was a significant part of the issue.
With nearly six in ten respondents claiming that they did not believe public transport had improved in the past year, Singapore's Land Transport Authority suggested that the results of the survey could be reflective of an increase in passenger numbers over the same period.
Indeed, with the average daily ridership rising by an estimated 5.9 per cent in 2012, Mr Lui also claimed that there has been a jump in the amount of public transport journeys made during peak times.
