Skegness relief road expected in Council's transport plan

Date: 19/3/2013
A proposed relief road designed to alleviate congestion in Skegness looks set to be included in Lincolnshire County Council's Fourth Local Transport Plan.As the Skegness Standard reports, it is expected that the Council will unveil a western relief road project as it aims to attract investment from developers and boost business prospects in the local area.
Skegness and District Chamber of Commerce chairman Glenis Brown has supported such an initiative for years, and praised the benefits that the latest developments should bring to the town.
"It's been bubbling away in the background for years but to get it on the final transport plan is wonderful news," she said.
"This gives Skegness the chance to grow again after years of being blighted by flood risks."
Architect Chris Mager's plans for the project involve a road that would depart the A52 west of Skegness towards the A158 - just west of South View Leisure - before continuing towards Ingoldmells.
It is predicted that this would relieve congestion along Roman Bank and also pave the way for fresh developments in Skegness, with talk of creating housing, industry and hotel opportunities.
