Date: 19/7/2011
In recognition of the importance of e-mobility, technological research, innovation and low carbon vehicles to the automotive sector, a new dedicated team has been established to handle these issues. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has set up the taskforce and notes that it will operate across all of its departments and particularly help to support the body's Electric Vehicle (EV) Group.
According to SMMT, it decided to form the team in order to be in line with the Automotive Council's aim to encourage research, development and innovation within the automobile sector.
Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive, says: "To support SMMT's work in building a market for ultra-low carbon vehicles and embedding important industrial capability in the UK supply chain, we have pulled together a number of staff and functions to establish a new innovation and e-mobility team."
He adds that the car industry is "determined" to lead the way in designing the technology that will help support sustainable motoring in the future.
Last week saw the London Assembly's Environment Committee meeting take place, where the emphasis was on analysing what must be done to help make the city the EV capital of Europe.
