SMMT launches 3rd Award for Automotive Innovation

Date: 17/4/2012

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has launched its Award for Automotive Innovation for the third year running.

Sponsored by GKN Driveline, its aim is to discover the next big technological advancement or idea in the automotive industry.

Individuals and organisations from the across the country can participate in the free competition and they will be judged by a panel of industry experts.

Entrants from the design, manufacturing and engineering sector are all invited to take part and last year, the awards saw more than 30 participants.

Chief Executive of the SMMT Paul Everitt said: "We hope that by celebrating success and showcasing talent we can help fast track new ideas and business opportunities."

He added there is a "high calibre of automotive talent out there".

Earlier this year, it was announced the organisation's See Inside Manufacturing scheme will continue into 2012.

This was launched in 2011 and encourages automotive firms to bring employment advisors and young people into their enterprise to show what working in the sector is like.
