Date: 8/12/2011
A guide has been launched to help businesses ensure they are not breaking the law when towing heavy goods.Released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the sixth Towing and the Law Guide discusses the steps enterprises need to take if they are moving anything that weighs more than 3.5 tonnes.
It also touches on European regulations and issues companies will need to be aware of when transporting goods on the continent.
SMMT Chief Executive Paul Everitt said: "SMMT's Towing and the Law publication has a proven track record of success with hundreds of thousands of people using it to stay legal in their business and leisure towing activities."
It also includes comprehensive advice on the licences required by drivers when towing heavy goods.
This comes after the SMMT welcomed Chancellor George Osborne's Autumn Statement, suggesting the plans laid out will boost competitiveness within the transport industry and encourage manufacturing, both in the automotive sector and wider economy.
