SMMT launches Working Assets pilot

Date: 19/4/2012
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is working with the Foyer Federation to encourage young people to consider a career in the automotive industry.A pilot programme called Working Assets has been launched and Ford, Toyota and Unipart are also participating in the scheme.
They will work with the Foyer Federation to set up inductions, training schemes, plant visits and local sustainability projects that young people can get involved in.
It is hoped these will give them an idea of what the industry is like and encourage them to consider it as a career option.
Chief Executive of the SMMT Paul Everitt said: "This project is a great opportunity to help ensure that all young people can access the employment opportunities of the vibrant and growing auto sector."
The organisation also supports a similar initiative called See Inside Manufacturing, which aims to demonstrate what a career in the vehicle manufacturing industry would be like.
