South West Trains has had 24 more stations re-accredited with secure station status, taking the total number on its network to 103.The scheme is led by the British Transport Police in conjunction with the (DfT) Department for Transport, and is designed to recognise efforts to improve station security across the country.
Liphook, Motspur Park and Shepperton are among those who are the latest to have been re-accredited under the initiative, which also awards attempts to deter crime and anti-social behaviour on trains.
"It's great news that these additional 24 stations have been re-accredited and we're pleased that so many passengers can continue to enjoy a safe journey with us," said Matthew Winnie, Head of Security and Revenue Protection for South West Trains.
With the overarching aim of the scheme being to increase the safety of travellers on the country's rail network, Mr Winnie added that a recent national survey found a four per cent rise in passenger satisfaction with personal security.
