Speeding motorists targeted in Kent

Date: 6/7/2010
Speeding motorists are being targeted in a day of action in villages across Kent.A number of Speedwatch schemes have been set up and they are manned by volunteers who check how fast passing individuals are driving using detection equipment.
Police Constable Warren Jarvis from Kent Police said those involved in the project care about the community.
"We want to remind people that speed limits are there for a reason - to save lives," he added.
Malcolm Buller is one of the individuals taking part in the initiative and he noted as soon as drivers see the high-visibility jackets they check to see how fast they are going.
He stated even law-abiding Britons can lose their concentration when they are behind the wheel.
The details of those clocked travelling above the limit are passed on to authorities, who then send out warning letters to the offenders and if they are caught a second time they receive a fine.
Last week, Brake and FedEx Express warned drivers under the age of 25 about the dangers of speeding after a report found more than half admitted travelling in a car going faster than the national limit.
