Stars out in force to promote London cycling

Date: 23/8/2010

Several stars have signed up to help promote London's cycling revolution through a series of films that will be shown online.

Radio One DJ Edith Bowman and X Factor presenter Dermot O'Leary will feature in five videos to highlight the benefits of cycling around the city.

Each of the short films will focus on a different element of Mayor Boris Johnson's plans to encourage people to take to their bikes, such as the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme.

Bowman remarked: "The great thing about cycling is the freedom it gives you to quickly get to where you want to go, that is why I was delighted to help Transport for London spread the word about cycling."

Kulveer Ranger, the mayor's transport adviser, said he hoped the films would encourage more people to use bikes to get around, as this is the most civilised mode of transport.

Earlier this month, Mr Johnson declared the success of London's bike hire initiative showed the nation is enthusiastic about travelling on two wheels.
