Starting whistle ready for London Cycle Challenge

Starting whistle ready for London Cycle Challenge

Date: 15/6/2011

There is not long left until the London Cycle Challenge kicks off, with thousands of riders already signed up.

Even those who do not own their own set of wheels can participate by using a Barclays Cycle Hire bike and Mayor of London Boris Johnson is now urging teams to register.

Taking place between June 18th and July 15th 2011, the event has been organised by Transport for London and will see participants logging points for each mile they cycle.

It is hoped that beginners will also be encouraged to take part, as more points are available for the first set of miles travelled.

Riders will be able to use Barclays Cycle Superhighways, which provide a safer and faster route through the capital for those on two wheels.

Teams that log the most miles during the month will win cycling equipment and bike-related products.

Mr Johnson said: "As part of my ongoing work to create a 'cyclised' London the challenge is out there every year to teams to take part in this terrific event."
