Stencils used to 'encourage' road safety among teenagers

Date: 27/7/2010

Thought-provoking stencils have been placed in parks across London in a bid to promote road safety among teenagers living in the capital.

The Mayor's Transport Adviser Kulveer Ranger said the strapline on the images - 'Think! Look out for your mates' - will hopefully get youngsters thinking about road safety.

"It is crucial we keep coming up with new innovative approaches to highlight to young people the need to keep safe on our roads," Ranger added.

The posters will be placed in skate parks and other places where young people tend to meet.

Head of Modal Policy at Transport for London (TfL) Lilli Matson noted the intention of the initiative is to spread awareness of staying safe on the roads and therefore reduce the number of youngsters seriously injured or killed in road traffic collisions.

Last month, TfL revealed there were 18 per cent fewer deaths or serious injuries as a result of vehicle-related accidents in 2009 compared to the previous year.
