Suitable clothing 'should be worn for motorcycle tests'

Date: 4/7/2011
Learner motorcyclists need to don the correct attire when they are taking either their module one or module two tests.According to the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), although the majority of instructors will urge their pupils to invest in the most protective clothing they can afford when learning to ride two wheels, some Britons are not heeding their advice.
The authority points out that its examiners will neither condone nor ignore test candidates riding a motorcycle or scooter when they do not have the suitable apparel.
Indeed, as of July 1st professionals responsible for conducting tests may tell learners that they will not be allowed to take the module if they are not dressed correctly for it, although the DSA adds that this is not an attempt to restrict individuals to wearing the most expensive garments on the market.
Where possible, riders will have the chance to change into something more suitable during the time they have available for their exam.
Garments deemed by the DSA to be necessary for biking include gloves, sturdy footwear, textile, leather or heavy denim trousers, a textile or leather jacket or a heavy denim jacket worn over several layers.
Lightweight trainers, ripped jeans, tracksuits, fleeces and clothing that exposes the skin, meanwhile, are not acceptable for tests.
Recently, Road Safety Minister Mike Penning advised motorcyclists to check the SHARP ratings of any helmet they wish to purchase in order to find the safest headgear within their budget.
