Superlorry stopped during first road test

Date: 3/12/2009
A lorry measuring 25.25m (83ft) has been stopped from driving on roads in Lincolnshire.
The longer vehicle was driven from Denby Transport headquarters and was promptly stopped by area police.
Denby Transport claim their lawyers were consulted and the "superlorry" is thought to conform with all current regulations.
A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said it is consulting the construction and use laws governing UK roads.
"If the Denby road train falls outside these definitions then it will be deemed to be illegal on UK roads," said the police spokesperson.
Denby Transport asserts the superlorry was a good innovation to combat the problem of transporting lightweight goods that run out of lorry space before they run out of weight.
The company had allegedly been working on the project for eight years and claims it would respect the UK weight limit for lorries of 44 tonnes.
