Surrey police launch drink-drive campaign

Date: 31/5/2010

Surrey police have unveiled their summer drink-drive campaign, urging motorists not to drive while under the influence of alcohol.

Approximately four people are killed or injured on Surrey's roads every month due to drunk drivers and those who have taken drugs before getting behind the wheel.

Inspector Chris Colley from the Roads Policing Unit said anyone involved in a collision will be tested for both alcohol and drugs if an officer suspects these are involved.

He remarked: "The clear message is that drinking and driving has serious consequences - you risk killing or seriously injuring yourself or another person and you risk arrest and court."

Inspector Colley added individuals need to be aware that citizens who drive the morning after a heavy night could also still be over the legal limit.

Members of the force recently reminded motorists to not only drive safely, but also to look twice to check for motorbikes.
