Tackle train congestion, says Transport Minister

Date: 24/7/2013
Action must be taken by the rail industry to reduce congestion on the country's train network, Transport Minister Norman Banker has insisted. His words come following the publication of new figures on crowding released today (July 24th), which revealed the ten busiest routes in the country.
Top of the list in the Spring of 2012 was the 07:44 BST service from Henley on Thames to London Paddington, which has a typical load factor of 184 per cent. Meanwhile, in the autumn of the same year it was the 08:27 BST service from Heathrow to London Paddington with a load factor of 165 per cent.
Mr Baker offered his sympathies to passengers who have to commute on the busiest services, as he understands it is an "unpleasant experience".
"I urge train operators to do what they can on these particular trains. The department is working closely with the industry to ensure this issue is tackled," he said.
