Teen road safety campaign 'making a big difference'

Date: 23/6/2010
A long-standing teen road safety campaign is helping to cut down on fatal injuries in London, new statistics suggest.Transport for London (TfL) announced yesterday (June 22nd) that there were 18 per cent fewer deaths or serious injuries as a result of vehicle accidents in 2009 compared to the previous year.
This corresponds to a 55 per cent dip in the number of people killed or seriously hurt on the capital's roads since 2000.
Commenting on the data, Lilli Matson, Head of Modal Policy, Better Routes and Places at TfL, stated the statistics prove the worth of the teen road safety campaign, which is part of its long-term road safety strategy.
Kulveer Ranger, the Mayor of London's Transport Adviser, added: "It is absolutely vital that we build on the progress we have made."
He went on to state: "TfL and the Mayor will continue to do all they can to make sure that teenagers in London take road safety seriously."
This follows news there were 299 fewer people fatally or seriously injured on London's roads in 2009 than in 2008.
