TfL announces improvements to river transport services

Date: 19/5/2011
Improvements have been announced to the river transport facilities in the capital, with the aim of attracting more commuters and visitors to journey on the water.Transport for London (TfL) reveals that many of the piers on the Thames now provide real-time boat information, while passengers can also make use of a Tube-style map and utilise Oyster pay-as-you-go acceptance on Thames Clipper services.
Furthermore, some Underground stations, TfL kiosks and certain city centre piers will also be handing out River Bus and River Tours guides for spring/summer 2011.
Andy Griffiths, Head of London River Services, says: "Whether you decide to enjoy the river for your daily commute this year or just make the most of your leisure time and dance the night away at a riverboat disco party, make sure you have one of our guides."
And another unusual transport option could soon be available in the capital, as Mayor of London Boris Johnson confirmed last month that work will begin in the summer to build a cable car that spans the Thames.
The service will connect the Greenwich Peninsula with the Royal Victoria Docks.
