TfL announces plans to improve Thames travelling

Date: 21/6/2010
Passengers who travel on the River Thames are set to be given increased support by Transport for London (TfL), in a raft of new proposals announced last week.According to the body, it will offer "Tube-style" maps, clearer signs, free 15-minute Wi-Fi access and more information to people who regularly get around the capital by boat.
In addition, a new flag system is to be introduced that is aimed at helping individuals differentiate between commuter and tourist vessels on the famous body of water.
Commenting on the announcement, Kulveer Ranger, the Mayor of London's Transport Adviser, said: "Travelling by river is one of the great joys of life in the capital, which is why we want to make it as easy as possible for Londoners and visitors to our capital."
He added the river's piers have long been "crying out" for such a system.
The River Bus service - for commuters in the city - runs every 15 minutes during peak hours, travelling from London Bridge to Canary Wharf in 13 minutes.
