The delivery of a number of the transport programmes for the 2012 Olympic Games has been taken on by Transport for London (TfL), the department has announced.Assuming the responsibility from the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), Travel Demand Management, Olympic and Paralympic Route Networks and Road Freight have all been transferred.
TfL is already responsible for delivering the Transport Co-ordination Centre, which will ensure that all transport operators, authorities and Games partners are able to communicate efficiently during the Olympics.

Meanwhile, Dennis Hone, Chief Executive of the ODA, claimed that the Olympics have helped to drive "billions of pounds" into upgrading transport in a way that will benefit Londoners for generations to come.
Elsewhere, Transport Secretary Philip Hammond has announced that Department for Transport guidance to councils for hosting special events is to be cut in order to make it easier for local communities to hold street parties in celebration of the forthcoming Royal wedding.
