Date: 2/5/2013
A scheme designed to improve the safety of motorcyclists on the capital's roads celebrated its tenth birthday yesterday (May 1st), with (TfL) Transport for London hailing the impact the initiative has had since its introduction. The BikeSafe-London programme is jointly run and funded by TfL and the Metropolitan Police Service, and helps motorbike users improve their knowledge, skills and experience on the roads in a bid to enhance their ability to ride safely.
With more than 26,000 motorcyclists having attended sessions which run as part of the scheme, TfL's Director of Surface Planning Ben Plowden hailed its success.
"BikeSafe-London has helped create a huge number of safer motorcyclists in London over the past ten years," he said.
"We continue to look at how we can improve road safety for all road users and our Motorcycle Safety Action Plan, which will be published later this year, will set out how we will further improve the safety of riders in the capital."
