TfL launches competition to create accessibility apps for passengers

TfL launches competition to create accessibility apps for passengers

Date: 15/3/2013

A new competition has been launched by (TfL) Transport for London, with developers being encouraged to create apps to improve the availability of real-time data on the capital’s transport network.

The organisation says that this is the first in a series of initiatives designed to make such apps usable across a range of platforms, with certain programmes currently restricted to Apple and Android devices.

Leon Daniels, Managing Director of Surface Transport at TfL, said: “TfL has a great track record of helping passengers with different needs get the right information.

“This new initiative should enable real time service arrivals and disruption information to reach a much wider group of people in a shorter time.”

Winners of the competition will receive development support from TfL as it looks to roll out more extensive apps to improve the experience of passengers on the capital’s public transport services, with Mr Daniels adding that the initiative will “take the accessibility of London's transport network to the next level.”
