TfL set to make further additions to Europe's largest green bus fleet

Date: 31/5/2013
London is set to see an expansion of its green bus fleet after (TfL) Transport for London was awarded £5 million worth of funding by the Department for Transport. The money will be used to purchase four electric buses at a cost of around £360,000, while the rest of the financial support will be used alongside TfL's existing budget to invest in a further 90 hybrid buses.
Mike Weston, London Buses Operations Director, said: "London buses may be red on the outside but they are increasingly green on the inside.
"The capital is leading the way on the introduction and operation of green buses and this has been recognised again this year with further funding from the Green Bus Fund."
Mr Weston added that TfL plans to continue to add to its current fleet and maintain the capital's position as operating the greenest bus network in all of Europe.
