TfL unveils plans to deal with high visitor numbers during Games

Date: 4/8/2011
Plans for how the UK capital will cope with the influx of thousands of people visiting it next year for the Olympic Games have been unveiled.Transport for London (TfL) reports that some routes in the Central London Zone - an area incorporating Green, Hyde and St James's Parks - will be subject to temporary traffic management restrictions.
This will include altering some existing bus routes and stops, preventing turning at certain points on the road and closing specified parking spots and loading bays.
Meanwhile, thousands of people living in the vicinity, along with businesses operating there, are to be sent information on the Central London Zone so that they can plan how they will get around during the Olympics.
Peter Hendy, London's Transport Commissioner, says: "The maps and other information we've published today are the result of the work TfL and Westminster City Council have done to find the safest and most effective way to manage the area during the Games."
This week, Transport Minister Norman Baker urged commuters working in parts of the capital closest to the Olympics venues to consider walking or cycling to the office or working from home next summer in order to help cope with the rise in passenger numbers on the transport network.
