TfL urges motorists to plan for cycle race bridge closures

Date: 25/6/2013
The capital's motorists have been urged to prepare themselves for the closure of 11 bridges over the Thames on August 4th, when 20,000 riders will participate in the Prudential Ride London event.According to (TfL) Transport for London, the route will be similar to that used in the cycling events that took place during last year's Olympics, and drivers need to be aware of the disruption that is set to occur.
Garrett Emmerson, Chief Operating Officer for Surface Transport at TfL, said: "Prudential RideLondon will be the largest ever mass-participation cycling event to take place in the UK.
"Roads around the route will be particularly busy and we urge people to plan ahead to avoid the disrupted areas."
The only bridges in the centre of the capital that are set to remain open throughout the day are London, Blackfriars and Waterloo - the likes of Westminster, Lambeth and Vauxhall will all be closed to motorists.
