The public 'will love how fast and smooth electric cars are'

Date: 1/12/2010

Electric cars offer an easy and clean way of getting around and will soon be embraced by the British public, an expert has claimed.

Quentin Willson, a Government Advisor on electric vehicle (EV) technology, said once people try the cars out, "they will adore how quiet, fast, smooth and futuristic they are."

He stated the news that an EV has won the European Car of the Year Awards for the first time in its 46 year history is hugely significant, remarking now is a "historic moment" for motoring.

Nissan's Leaf scooped the prestigious prize, beating 40 combustion-engine vehicles to the crown.

Mr Willson observed the model can travel about 100 miles on one charge, which will cost approximately £1.50 in energy and it is this value for money that will sell EVs to consumers, as it means they no longer have to be reliant on the price of oil.

He added people should not be concerned about charging infrastructure that is yet to be completed, as cars can be plugged into a normal 13 amp socket in a garage or through a window.
