Ticket hall opened at one of central Olympic Tube stops

Date: 21/3/2011
A new ticket hall and entrance has been opened at one of the Underground stops that is set to become a hub for attendees of next year's Olympic Games.Transport for London reports that the refurbishments of Stratford Regional Station have now been unveiled.
The updates were made using funding from the group and the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), as part of the multi-billion pound investment being made in the capital's transport infrastructure to create a legacy after the 2012 Games.
It is believed that the new facilities will reduce congestion at the station while also allowing passengers to enter and leave more easily.
A new platform has also been created to enable travellers to exit on both sides, while the ticket hall will provide direct access to the Central Line.
It has been estimated that 12,000 individuals will pass through Stratford Regional during peak times of the sporting event.
Commenting on the opening, Hugh Sumner, Director of Transport for the ODA, said: "Delivering improved transport is one of the strongest physical legacies of the Games, with around £6.5 billion of associated investment in transport infrastructure across the UK."
Last month, Mayor of London Boris Johnson said that the capital had a responsibility to ensure that the city continued to function smoothly and efficiently during the Olympics.
