Tottenham Hale 'to become more cycle-friendly'

Date: 21/6/2011
Tottenham Hale is to undergo a regeneration, as plans continue apace to build a new bus station and public square. In addition, Transport for London notes that the area's current gyratory road system will be converted to two-way traffic.
Some 80 per cent of locals who were consulted on the department's proposals voiced their support of changing the one-way system, while it is hoped that once the project is complete Tottenham Hale will have an urban transport hub.
The scheme is just one of the initiatives taking place under the Mayor of London's Great Outdoors Programme, which has been designed to breathe new life into public spaces, roads, paths and passages by encouraging more people to walk or cycle.
As a result, footpaths and lighting have undergone upgrades, while greenery has been added through the plantation of new trees.
Mayor Boris Johnson said: "[The] overhaul of the area that will include tremendous improvements for pedestrians and cyclists and make this a corner of the capital we can really be proud of."
Elsewhere in the city, Golders Green bus station reopened ahead of schedule recently following essential resurfacing.
