Toyota and BMW to research green car technology

Date: 1/12/2011

Toyota and BMW have teamed up to carry out research into environmentally-friendly motoring technology.

They will investigate how next-generation batteries can be used in modern cars to make them greener.

German firm BMW will also supply Japanese manufacturer Toyota with 1.6 and two-litre diesel engines that will be used in vehicles sold in Europe by the company from 2014.

President of Toyota Akio Toyoda explained the deal will enable the enterprises to make better, more eco-friendly cars by combining their knowledge.

Chairman of the Board of Management at BMW AG Norbert Reithofer added: "We are now joining forces to further develop environment-friendly technologies and to expand our innovation leadership in each of our segments."

Honda is also doing its bit for sustainability, as President and Chief Executive Officer of the organisation Takanobu Ito announced at the Tokyo Motor Show yesterday (November 30th) that the manufacturer is launching a new generation of engines called Earth Dreams Technology.
