Transformation of 'integral Olympic station' close to finish

Green Park tube station is approaching the end of its transformation, which has been designed to make it more accessible to travellers.

Transport for London (TfL) has announced that passengers making use of the stop are already enjoying improvements, with step-free access now in place thanks to the provision of three new lifts.

Tube Lines and London Underground have been responsible for the £48 million project, which is set to come in under budget and ahead of schedule.

With Green Park station expected to be a 'key Olympic interchange' next summer, according to TfL, passengers with restricted mobility will be able to reach platforms for the Jubilee Line, which will take them to the Olympic Park.

New entrances and elevator lobbies have also been constructed, while fresh lighting, flooring and tiles have been installed.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "We want to make the links into the Olympic venues as strong as possible and the ease of passage between them as smooth as possible."

TfL announced today (September 7th) that a new facility has been introduced for pay-as-you-go Oyster card customers who forget to touch out when they exit the station.

Currently, passengers who fail to scan their card at the end of their journey are charged the maximum fare, but the new system will see them being billed an amount based on how far they are estimated to have travelled by Oyster.
