Transport management systems 'can cut business emissions'

Transport management systems 'can cut business emissions'

Date: 3/11/2011

Transport management systems have an essential role to play in helping businesses to cut their carbon emissions, an expert has told Biz Community.

Tony Davis, managing director of Dovetail Systems, has highlighted the fact that companies with fleets have seen this leap up as a priority over the last few years with the possibility of a carbon tax making dealing with emissions early even more urgent.

He said that transport fleets produce an average of ten per cent of a given country's carbon emissions, but that by improving the efficiency of these operations substantial gains can be achieved.

Mr Davis highlighted the benefits that optimising routes, mode and carrier selection, loads and the reduction of less-than-total-load journeys can also have on the environment.

He added: "Modernising transport fleets will play a significant role in reducing any company's carbon footprint, which again is money straight to the bottom line."

Michael Boxwell, author of the 2011 Electric Car Guide and editor of the website of the same name, recently forecast that electric cars will soon become mainstream for vehicles up to the size of a Ford Focus, which will make these more viable for businesses looking to reduce their environmental impact.ADNFCR-2726-ID-800785662-ADNFCR
