Transport minister 'to focus on buses and coaches at conference'

Date: 18/1/2011

The forthcoming Bus and Coach Engineering Conference will see Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport Norman Baker acting as the keynote speaker.

The unique engineering event, which is to be held in February, is organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Institute of Road Transport Engineers - a professional sector within the Society of Operations Engineers - and Passengerfta.

It is set to attract attendees from within the Passenger Carrying Vehicle industry and Mr Baker will use his time there to discuss the latest engineering developments and achievements in coach and bus travel.

Meanwhile, Senior Traffic Commissioner Philip Brown will deliver the latest on the Traffic Commissioner report, in addition to an update on the sector.

Topics on the conference's bill include all the latest developments in hybrid technology, designing vehicles for maintenance, how to reduce fuel consumption and technician licensing assessments.

IMechE is also set to host a lecture in Scotland this week, which will be delivered by the Bloodhound World Land Speed Record Car team.
