Transport Secretary hints at £5m Kenilworth station boost

Date: 4/6/2013
Plans for the construction of an £11 million rail station in Kenilworth have been given a boost after Transport Secretary Partick McLoughlin announced the (DfT) Department for Transport could potentially inject £5 million into the project. This would form part of a total of £37 billion worth of investment that is due to be spent on improving rail infrastructure between 2014 and 2019, with the Kenilworth funding likely to be provided via the New Stations Fund.
Visiting the area, the Secretary said that the Government intends to push on with "the biggest programme of rail investment" that Britain has ever undertaken.
"Our support for Kenilworth station illustrates our commitment to working with community and national partners to meet local transport needs that not only deliver real benefits to passengers but also improves the network," he added.
Network Rail is said to be working on integrating plans for a Kenilworth Station with the rest of the network, including efforts to increase capacity and roll-out further electrification.
