Transport investment concerns raised

Date: 12/1/2010
London's transport watchdog has raised concerns over future investment in the city's transport infrastructure, it has been reported. The London TravelWatch said in its response to the Mayor's Transport Strategy consultation that it is not clear how investment for many aims of the strategy could be realised in the medium to long term.
"We are concerned that there is too much in this strategy which is aspirational at a time when decision-makers across the industry need real clarity of direction about future priorities for transport in London," said chair of the organisation Sharon Grant.
However, the organisation also voiced its support for many of the aims of the strategy.
But avoiding decisions over how to fund transport plans will just lead to suffering for the capital's travelling public, she argued.
The transport strategy does suggest that road charging could be introduced although according to Mayor Watch, City Hall has stated that this policy would be turned to as a last resort.
