TRL and Williams F1 sign MoU on road safety research

Date: 21/11/2011
TRL and Williams F1 have teamed up to co-operate on research to improve road safety and reduce emissions through the use of advanced simulator-based vehicle training technologies. The two organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and will carry out joint investigations, as well as marketing and business development initiatives.
Work will be conducted in Qatar at the Williams Technology Centre and the TRL Centre, with the study aiming to improve not only driver behaviour locally but around the world.
Williams F1's simulator technology will be used for the research, which after ten years training the world’s leading racing drivers, is being developed for projects away from the racing circuit.
Chief Executive of TRL Dr Sue Sharland said: "This collaboration with Williams F1 presents a tremendous opportunity to make major advances in the application of simulator technologies for training."
This is not the only research being carried out by TRL, as it recently led a consortium that looked into the safety of older child passengers in cars using a state of the art child dummy.
