TRL launches Ratemystreet

Date: 10/6/2010
Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) has launched a new website which lets people determine the walkability of their road.Ratemystreet uses Google maps and Google Streetview and it enables individuals to mark their street using a five star system.
A number of categories are used to determine how walker-friendly an area is, including pavement width, trip hazards, safety from crime, crossing the road, cleanliness, disabled access and safety from traffic.
The application is compatible with TRL's Pedestrian Environment Review System software - developed in conjunction with Transport for London - which combines data to assess the UK's streets.
Users of the site can also add recommendations and reviews and the system is open-sourced so anyone can get involved.
The tool is ideal for public consultation use and can be tailored to integrate with company branding.
Last month, TRL announced MaxCad and Modell are the latest two distributors for its Global Reseller Network software.
