TRL launches student licence for TRANSYT 14

Date: 7/12/2011
TRL has launched a student licence for the latest version of its software package for studying large signalised networks in a bid to encourage a new generation of talent to enter the traffic management industry.TRANSYT 14 is now available on a nine-month licence to students studying traffic engineering and TRL's Phil Knight said the move will enable people to learn about the product at their own pace.
Its availability "should improve the quality of the engineer coming through into industry, making employment that one step closer," the Senior Traffic Engineer observed.
TRL has also made its TrafApps app - which is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch - available free for a limited time over the festive period.
It takes advantage of handsets' built-in GPS capabilities to enable users to obtain name and location information when on site and was launched earlier in 2011 along with reworked versions of SATFLOW and MOVASPEED.
The move comes shortly after the launch of TEST - Tool for Evaluating Strategies for Traffic - by TRL, which enables local authorities to assess how changes to road networks will affect neighbourhoods.
