Date: 20/7/2011
A call for papers for the seventh Symposium on Pavement Surface Characteristics (SURF) seminar has been issued by Brian Ferne, Honorary Chief Research Scientist at TRL (Transport Research Laboratory).Mr Ferne, who is also the current Chairman of the International Scientific Committee for the event and Chief Technical Adviser on Pavement Engineering, will be attending the seminar along with the field's other leading experts in September 2012.
He has been either a full or invited member of the Technical Committee at the World Road Association (PIARC) since 1997, where he has played a part in investigating the interaction between vehicles and road surfaces.
Mr Ferne has a specific duty of leading his team as they review all of the committee's deliverables ahead of them being issued.
Taking place in Norfolk, Virginia in the US, SURF 2012 is organised by PIARC, which TRL has enjoyed a long relationship with.
The event will include technical demonstrations and exhibitions, along with panel discussions to pinpoint the emerging issues in the area of pavement and road surfaces.
In addition, there will be technical updates from equipment and data service providers.
