Tube Metronet contracts permanently under LUL

Date: 29/10/2009
The London Underground contracts outstanding after Metronet's collapse
will permanently fall under London Underground Limited's management, it
was announced today.
London Mayor Boris Johnson and transport secretary Andrew Adonis
confirmed today that contracts for improvements to the tube will be
permanently managed by LUL after temporary management by Transport for
London.
TfL had inherited the contracts after Metronet dissolved, and will
continue under the new arrangement to provide increased scrutiny
measures to safeguard the investment programmes.
Mayor Boris Johnson said that since the transfer of Metronet, TfL was
able to renegotiate contracts and save hundreds of millions of pounds.
He also said he would like to see the new advisory continuing to create
efficiencies in its investment programme.
"I want them to reassure Londoners that the major improvements in
reliability, comfort and capacity that have been promised to Londoners
will be delivered on time and at the best possible value," he explained.
Metronet contracts were negotiated to cover the upgrade, maintenance and
renewal of infrastructure on the Bakerloo, Central, Victoria, Waterloo
and City and the sub-surface lines.
