UK forecourts 'braced for new EU emissions rules'

Date: 3/12/2010
New European Union (EU) regulations governing emissions from vehicles are due to come into force. As a result Autocar suggests many garages will be offering discounts on cars that are compliant with the Euro IV rules, rather than the new Euro V legislation.
Under the new regulations, models that are registered and sold should be Euto V compliant and dealers will struggle to log those failing to do so from January 1st 2011.
Manufacturers have been working to improve the environmental footprint of engines, although some have not managed to change them all over in time, the company states.
The Euro V emissions standard limits output from diesel vehicles to 500 mg of carbon monoxide per km and from petrol or gas-powered cars to 1,000 mg/km.
It came into force on September 1st 2009 for the approval of models and will be implemented for registration and sale from January 1st 2011, with the Euro VI standard in place from September 1st 2014 for the former and January 1st 2015 for the latter.
