UK rail punctuality improving, data shows

New figures have revealed an improvement in the punctuality of the UK's trains.Data published by Network Rail revealed that during period eight 2011 - October 16th to November 12th - punctuality on British rail networks reached 89.3 per cent.
This is up from the figure of 86.5 per cent recorded at the same time in 2010 and the annual moving average now stands at 90.6 per cent.
It was discovered c2c Rail put in the best performance during period eight, with a score of 97.8 per cent compared with 92.8 per cent last year, while the London Overground came in second place.
Virgin Trains had the worst punctuality score of 77.5 per cent compared with 85.5 per cent in 2010, which put its annual moving average at 83.8 per cent.
Merseyrail, Stagecoach South West Trains and Arriva Trains Wales also did well.
This comes after Rail Minister Theresa Villiers revealed 4,500 additional seats are to be provided on services to Thames Valley and the south-west from London's Paddington station.
