UK road traffic increases in Q4 2011

Date: 9/2/2012
There was an increase in the amount of traffic on the UK's roads in the final quarter of last year, government figures have revealed.Released by the Department for Transport (DfT) today (February 9th), data showed a 3.6 per cent growth in all motor vehicle traffic in Q4 2011 compared with the same period in 2010.
Traffic was greater in 2011 on all types of road, with the most significant increase seen on minor urban and minor rural routes, where there was a five per cent growth.
While car traffic was three per cent higher overall, light van traffic was up five per cent.
However, it was noted snowfall had an effect on traffic movement at the end of 2010 and the differences between the two years are unlikely to have been as significant if the weather had been better.
Last month, figures from the DfT showed 82.7 per cent of journeys on Britain's motorways and A roads were made on time in the year to November 2011.
